Privacy policy
Effective date:
Scoop is a private library for the links you save and the notes you write. This policy explains what information Scoop collects, how it is used and shared, and the choices you have. It applies to the Scoop apps for Android and iOS, the service they connect to, and the website at myscoop.app.
In this policy, “Scoop”, “we”, and “us” refer to the provider of the Scoop apps and service. We are the controller of the personal information described here. You can reach us at developer@myscoop.app.
Summary
- Your library is private to your account. Other people cannot see what you save.
- We do not sell your personal information, show ads, or use advertising or analytics tools.
- We do not use your library to train AI models.
- Your notes and tags are never sent to the websites you save or to an AI service.
- You can delete your account and your library at any time.
1. Information we collect
Account information
You sign in with Google or with Sign in with Apple. We receive your name, your email address, and an account identifier from that provider. If you use Apple’s Hide My Email option, we receive a relay address instead of your real email address. Scoop does not create or store a password.
Your library
When you use Scoop, we store the content of your library so that it is available on all your devices:
- links you save, and notes you write
- notes you attach to a link, tags, pins, and expiry dates you set
- the time an item was saved and your device’s time zone at that moment
- when you share into Scoop from another app, the subject and text that came with the link, and on Android, the app you shared from
Device information
To keep your devices in sync, we store a random identifier that the app creates for each installation, along with the device’s platform, manufacturer, and model. On Android, we also store a push registration token used to tell your other devices that new changes are available. The random identifier is not a hardware or advertising identifier, and a new one is created if you reinstall the app.
Crash reports
When the app crashes or stops responding, it can send a diagnostic report so that we can fix the problem. A report contains technical details such as the error, the app version, the device model, and the operating system version. Reports do not include your account, email address, any device or advertising identifier, or anything from your library. Web addresses, email addresses, and IP addresses are removed from reports before they are sent. You can turn crash reports off at any time (see section 7).
Information stored only on your device
Your search history (your last five searches), your app settings, and your App lock setting stay on your device. They are not sent to us. App lock uses your device’s own screen lock or biometrics. Scoop never receives your PIN, password, fingerprint, or face data.
Information we do not collect
Scoop does not access your location, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone. It does not use an advertising identifier and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
2. Link previews and summaries
To show a preview of a link you save, the Scoop app on your device loads the page directly from the website. This works like a visit from a browser, except that it carries none of your cookies or sign-ins for that site and no information about your Scoop account. As with any visit, the website, and any service that hosts its images, can see your device’s IP address and that the request came from Scoop.
The app then sends the public text and details of the page to our service, which creates a short summary and classification using Google’s Gemini API. Only the page content is sent to Gemini, never your notes, tags, or account details. We may also look up public reference services, such as Crossref, Open Library, and Apple’s iTunes Search API, to add facts about a book, article, podcast, or app. These services receive only a public identifier, such as an ISBN, and never information about you.
Previews and summaries describe public web pages, so they are not linked to your account. If another person saves the same link, they see the same preview and summary. They cannot see that you saved it, and they cannot see your notes or tags.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- provide your account, store your library, and sync it across your devices
- create previews and summaries of the links you save
- find and fix crashes and other problems
- keep the service secure and prevent abuse
- respond to your requests and comply with the law
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles of you for marketing.
4. How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only as follows.
Service providers. We use the providers below to run Scoop. They process information on our behalf and only for the purposes described in this policy.
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google (Firebase Authentication) and Apple | Sign-in |
| Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) | Telling your Android devices to sync |
| Google (Cloud Run, Firebase Hosting) | Hosting our service and website |
| Neon | Database hosting |
| Cloudflare | Network security and delivery |
| Google (Gemini API) | Summaries of public page content |
| Sentry | Crash reporting |
Websites you save. As described in section 2, your device contacts each website you save. Those websites are not our service providers. Their own privacy policies apply.
Legal reasons. We may disclose information if we are required to by law, or if we believe it is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or Scoop.
Business transfers. If Scoop is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. This policy will continue to apply to it until you are notified otherwise.
If you download Scoop from Google Play or the App Store, Google or Apple may collect information under their own privacy policies. We do not control that collection.
5. How long we keep information
We keep your account and library for as long as your account exists.
When you delete an item, it is removed from your library right away and permanently erased from our servers within 180 days. In the meantime, we keep it only so that your other devices also remove it.
When you delete your account, we delete your account, your library, and your device registrations, as described in section 6.
Previews and summaries of public pages are not linked to your account and may be kept after you delete an item or your account.
Our hosting providers keep server logs, which include IP addresses, for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. Crash reports are kept for no longer than 90 days.
6. Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app under Profile → Delete account. You can also ask us to delete it by emailing developer@myscoop.app from the email address linked to your account.
Deleting your account permanently deletes your Scoop account, your saved links and notes, your tags, and your device registrations. It also removes your library from the device you use to delete it. This cannot be undone. Remaining copies in our backups are removed within 30 days.
Deleting your Scoop account does not delete your Google or Apple account.
Signing out does not delete anything. Your library stays on the device and returns when you sign back in.
7. Your choices
- Crash reports. Turn Send crash reports off or on under Profile → Privacy. When you turn it off, reports that have not yet been sent are discarded.
- Items. Edit or delete any item in your library at any time.
- Device backups. Your device’s own backup, through Google or iCloud, may include Scoop’s data on that device, according to your backup settings.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email developer@myscoop.app. We may need to confirm that the request comes from the account holder. We respond within the time the law requires, and within 30 days at the latest.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. We process your account, library, and sync information because it is necessary to provide the service you signed up for. We process crash reports, security information, and shared page previews on the basis of our legitimate interests in keeping Scoop reliable and secure. You can object to this processing at any time, for example by turning off crash reports. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
California. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. You may exercise your rights without being treated differently.
India. You may access, correct, or erase your personal information, and raise a grievance by emailing us. If your grievance is not resolved, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
9. Where information is processed
Your library is stored on servers in Singapore. Our service providers may process information in other countries, including the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.
10. Security
Information sent between the app and our service is encrypted in transit. Your library is accessible only to your signed-in account. We limit what our systems log, and we do not log the contents of your notes or tags. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if the law requires it.
11. Children
Scoop is not intended for children. You must be at least 13 years old to use Scoop, or older if your country requires a higher age to consent to the processing of personal information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. The website
myscoop.app is an informational website. It does not use cookies, analytics, advertising, or other third-party trackers. Our hosting provider processes your IP address to deliver the site.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and change the effective date. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
